Mobius Golf Day
The sun was shining for the Mobius Golf Day hosted at Knowle Golf Club in aid of Empire Fighting Chance.
18 teams took part in the company’s second charity golf day on Tuesday 7th September, completing 18 holes in 28-degree heat before heading to the clubhouse for some well-deserved refreshments and the heavily anticipated prize giving. We’d like to say another big congratulations to all of the day’s winners:
- 1St Place 4 Ball Team – P. Tregale, N. Tout, W. Daniels and R. Egerton Longest Drive – Liam Mitchell and Rachel Bell
- 2nd Place 4 Ball Team – B. Thompson, J. Hoyle, C. Kershaw and I. Wilmot
- 3rd Place 4 Ball Team – Z. Bignell, L. Bignell, D. Lee and J. Williams
- Nearest the Pin – Alex Van Laun, Charlie Kershaw and Brad Whittock
- Beat the Pro – Mark Coles
For many, this was the first experience back at an in-person corporate event since the pandemic, and companies made the most of a fantastic opportunity to network again and catch up with old friends. As well practising their putting, the players also benefitted from some top tips to improve mental resilience on the fairways, developed by Empire Fighting Chance’s Sports Psychologist, Sam Kotadia.
A leader in commercial and private design and construction, Mobius welcomed a wide range of their customers and suppliers who share the business’s passion for making a difference. The golf day is part of the Mobius aim to raise £10,000 for Empire Fighting Chance during 2020/21 and thanks to everyone’s generosity on the day, a fantastic £4,000 was raised towards this target which is enough to enable 8 young people to access the 20-week Training with Champions programme with Empire Fighting Chance!
“I am absolutely delighted that we were able to host our annual charity golf day earlier this month despite some challenges this year with the initial change of date due to Covid restrictions – but it didn’t stop us! We had 18 full teams, the most amazing weather and so much excitement and enthusiasm from our guests, it really couldn’t have been better!
I know the holes were sponsored in record time – including by companies who couldn’t attend – and this demonstrates the overwhelming support the charity is given and that they truly deserve. Empire Fighting Chance transforms thousands of young lives through boxing programmes as well as fighting deprivation on the streets of Bristol and surrounding areas, and it’s a charity we firmly believe in supporting when and where we can. It was a no-brainer for me to decide to support them again this year.
On behalf of everyone at Mobius HQ, a huge thank you to all of our guests for their support and for those who sponsored holes and donated items for our auction. Not forgetting thanks to Empire Fighting Chance for helping on the day – you’re all stars!”
Mobius Director, Lee Bignell
Mulligans and a much-appreciated cold drinks cart helped to boost fundraising on the day, whilst some amazing prizes on offer in the auction helped to raise over £2,500, including a luxury car for the weekend from Blue Poppy, sporting hospitality tickets and a stay at Hilton DoubleTree. Every donation made at the Mobius Golf Day will directly impact the lives of vulnerable young people, as Empire Fighting Chance Co-Founder Jamie Sanigar highlighted in his speech:
“The issues we tackle range from daily anxiety and depression to self-harming, to suicidal thoughts and sadly, attempts on life… Our unique approach means young people gain support in ways that feel natural, encouraging them to turn up, trust us and make positive changes in their lives. Despite the adversity that they face, young people are returning to school, exiting gangs, getting work and feeling healthier and happier.”

The day was documented by the incredibly talented Aaron Geis who kindly donated his time to photograph the event. To see the golfers in action, head to https://www.aarongeis.com/-/galleries/mobius-golf-day/.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the team at Mobius for making this event such a success, and for their continued support to Empire Fighting Chance. Having the dedication of companies such as Mobius enables our doors to remain open, so that vulnerable young people can access vital mental health services at a time in their lives when so often, all other doors appear closed.
Thank you to Mobius, the team at Knowle Golf Club, all of the players, and all those companies and individuals who donated time or prizes including Aaron Geis Photography, Blue Poppy, Box-E, Bristol Rovers, Bristol Sport, DoubleTree by Hilton, Edmundson Electrical, First Class Comms, Gloucestershire Cricket Club, Jolly Hog, Kew Electrical, Kingston Barnes, Knowle Golf Course, Loungers, NOCO Hair, Templegate, The Pony and Trap, Wokyko.
