FUNDING NOW SECURED FOR TRANSFORMING OUR HOME

2015 01 24 Empire 27

We are excited to announce that we have secured funding to transform our home, The Mill, to create a bigger, better place for young people and for our community, partners and staff.

The redevelopment of our gym will enable us to create a national centre of excellence where our programmes are operating at optimal scale and to the highest possible standard. With the new space we will take on greater responsibility for our community. We will do this by sharing The Mill with local organisations, growing a movement to deliver our work in communities across the UK, and showcasing Empire as a training centre.

THE PROJECT

There are two phases to our project. The first is a two-storey extension to the rear of The Mill. The second is a multi-purpose sports hall on the site of our outdoor basketball court.

The two-storey extension provides us with an additional 1068m2 of space, which we will use to create: a third boxing gym, a designated space for Box Careers, flexible spaces to deliver our work, and offices for our staff.

The multipurpose sports hall will give us even more space to deliver our boxing programmes. The sports hall will be on the ground floor of a new building which will provide affordable housing units in inner city Bristol. This is being built by Sovereign Housing, who will own and manage the housing units. Sovereign are funding the cost of the sports hall for us.

IMPACT

The expansion of The Mill will enable us to significantly increase our impact on young people’s lives. The capital project will enable us to:

  • Increase the number of young people we work with in Bristol
  • Strengthen the quality of our work
  • Increase the number of young people we reach through our partners
  • Create a community hub offering support to young people and their families
  • Improve our financial sustainability
